As King Family Vineyards’ flagship red wine, each vintage of Meritage is crafted to highlight the best of our vineyards and winery and to showcase the particular triumphs of each harvest. The expression of our terroir through estate-grown Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot blended with locally sourced Malbec makes our Meritage unique to King Family Vineyards. This limited production wine is sought after for its complexity, Old World flavor, and aging potential.
The wine ages for eighteen months in French oak barrels before bottling. The resulting strong tannic structure is characteristic of a wine that will hold up well for years to come, making it a perfect fit for any red wine collector’s cellar. As each vintage matures, complexity deepens, flavors unfurl, and the silkiness present from bottling is magnified. We recommend laying this wine down for up to ten years.
Though we specialize in small productions of ultra-premium wines, King Family Vineyards is committed to providing a multi-dimensional tasting experience. With an annual production of approximately 5,500 cases, we are often pouring recent vintages in our Tasting Room, leaving the cellaring and care of our boutique wines in the hands of our customers.
Winemaker Matthieu Finot has amassed very limited quantities of past vintages of Meritage to be released annually. Beginning with the library release of Meritage 2006 in March 2012, we look forward to sharing 10% of each subsequent vintage all over again. While we have decided to re-release these wines six years from the time the grapes were harvested, the cellaring and care of each bottle rests where it always has – with our extended family of customers.
