~ Assistant Winemaker ~
Michael graduated with a degree in Philosophy from Colorado College in 2010 and began working in restaurants in Aspen afterwards. That is where he initially became interested in pursuing wine as a career. He transitioned from restaurants to wine production when he worked his first harvest in the fall of 2012 in Napa. He worked on and off in Napa for four years after that, taking time off to work two harvests abroad in New Zealand and South Africa. In the fall 2016 he earned his Masters in Viticulture and Oenology in Nyon, Switzerland. He worked the harvest after graduation in Chile before coming to King Family Vineyards. Michael is originally from Durham, North Carolina and wanted to live closer to his family. He is also very excited about the growing wine development in the the Southeast United States and beleives that the Monticello AVA and the surrounding area is the best example of that growth. Michael tries to spend as much time as he can outside, usually in the form of hiking or skiing and also does yoga on a regular basis. Additionally, he is always looking to try new wines and beers and also improve his cooking skills and is always ready to take the trip down to North Carolina to see his family.
